Will not go into ANY gear...

About a mnth ago I started having a hard time going into gears...today, It now will not go into any gears with alot of force(it grinds if you try to force it) The car starts moving if you try to force it real hard and you have the foot on the clutch also...Do you guys think this is a hydraulic issue? What is the best way to troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks

Cody

Real easy to diagnose if it's the clutch. Stop the car, put it in 1st, hold the clutch, and fire her up. If she lurches forward, bad clutch disengagement. Make sure you've got a clear path ahead of you

If it is the clutch, check the fluid. Maybe it's something as simple as a slave cylinder or line leak. Hell, you might just have air in the system and it needs a bleed.

Actually, its exactly the opposite. Its not DISengaging properly. Your hydraulics are shot. Either the slave or the master. I STRONGLY reccommend you change both or you WILL be doing this again. I do this stuff for a living, they work together and if you do just one you will end up doing the other shortly down the road anyways. If you're mechanically inclined, do the master yourself and re-bleed the slave and see if that works for ya. If not, its the slave, and if you're not capable of pulling a tranny, take it in and tell them you need a slave installed.
Oh, and ask if you can see your clutch and flywheel while they have the tranny out as you may want to take advantage of the situation and have one installed.

Re: Will not go into ANY gear...

I think your correct Blown94...The problem seemed to worsen over time and then it finally went dead...Is there any real way to test the master or slave? I'm wondering how much pressure the slave cylinder rod exerts on the clutch fork when the clutch pedal is pushed?
I do have one question? In your post you state dropping the tranny to do the slave? If Im not mistaken you should be able to replace it without pulling the tranny...The master and slave are both connected together also..
I am very mechanically inclined....just haven't tackled a problem like this before and I like hearing everyone's stories that have done it and troubleshot this exact problem before......makes it easier on me!!

Thanks

AH my bad, I think you're right,...the LT1 t-56 had the slave externally. That jsut makes it all that much easier on you. The easier of the 2 to do is the slave in your case. Like I said, you're going to want to do both and get all of that old fluid out of the line. If you insist on doing one at a time make sure you at least get all the fluid out before re-bleeding the new slave. Im telling you though, you'll end up doing both in the long run shortly after you do one. Been down that road many times with customers that dont listen because they think we're trying to scam more $$ out of them. The new component will hold more pressure, and the next weakest link will blow out. It would be like taking your transmission apart and just replacing a couple seals and putting it back together. It wont last, believe me on that one too, I build trannies. Either way, plan on doing both and dont do oen and say hey it works again, then blow of doing the other until it fails. Unless you like breaking down and having your vehicle towed.
