when draining the trans fluid on a 6 speed?

when you drop the drain plug and it stops draing is that all of it or is some still in the trans ....the reason im asking is the mechanic shop put in 90 weight gear oil instead of auto trans fluid and i wanna make sure it all out before i fill it up again...thanks

Good thing you caught that.

It should be most if not all of it, but you might want to run a couple quarts of cheap ATF through and then drain it again just to be safe.

You probably won't, but I definitely wouldn't go back to that shop again.

I'd try to figure out some way to flush it all out.

If it were my car, I would first let the trans drain over night or about 12 hours. Then fill with fresh D3 and run the car on jack stands for about half an hour, letting it idle for five minutes in each gear. Then drain overnight again while the fluid is still somewhat warm. Then fill with what ever brand you prefer and it should be fine.
