Whats the difference between a '95-'97 LT1 4l60E
and a '98-'02 4l60E tranny? Excuse my ignorance, Im currently a T56 guy and know nothing about automatics. The reason I ask is because Im thinking about swapping my T56 for a auto. I might have access to a 4L60E from '98 formy, but not sure if I would be able to use it in my '95 LT1 Formy.
Im currently doing a 396 S400 turbo build up and thinking about going for an auto while were building it up. Would a 4L60E be up to the task? Or, should I look at TH400? Its, not quite a daily driver any longer, but I would like to retain the overdrive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Eric

The '98-up is an LS1 transmission. The bellhousing, and input shaft are different, and they use a taller converter.
You might want to search a little more for a '95-'97 transmission. That way you can be assured of a bolt-in deal.
If you're interested in having one built, I'll swap you the '98 core for a '95-'97 core if we do a rebuild.
As for the strength of the 4L60E? I have no reservations about the strength of ours. I'd be hesitant to buy one from anyone else to put behind any kind of power.
Another option would be a 700R4. This would save you from having to wire everything and change your computer. A 700 is a direct bolt-in, as the '93 4th gens came with them.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me. 302-250-1202
