what went wrong during burnout???
what went wrong during burnout???
Last night, I was at Norwalk Raceway running faster and hooking up harder than I ever have. during the 3rd round I did my burnout in the water box, let off the gas, the tires grabbed really hard at seperate times and then when I tried to accelerate up to the staging lights......first gear was slipping so bad I barely made it to the line. No tranny fluid was leaking. I checked the fluid and it was slightly high (possibly because the fluid was so hot) but looked okay. I shut the car off for 15 minutes while I changed the drag radials out and then started it back up and first gear worked just fine. I actually drove the car 2 hours back to Columbus and never felt it slip once.
Any educated guesses from transmission guys?
I'm taking it to the shop today to let them look but want to get other opinions.

Re: what went wrong during burnout???
I had this happen to me, but it wasn't that the tranny was slipping in first. It had locked into 3rd and was stuck. I didn't know it until I tried to take off and ran the whole quarter in 3rd.
I let the car sit and started it up and it was fine. When you spin them that fast(burnout), the clutches lock up and when you let off, the tires stop so suddenly, the clutches don't disengage. Try not to go out of 1st or 2nd on the burnout. Maybe this will help you.

Re: what went wrong during burnout???
Ive heard of that b4 also. Centrifugal clutch apply for the 3-4 clutches. Never had it happen to me, but sounds like thats what happened. Bet yer 3-4 clutches didnt like that very much. Pro built sells a kit that supposed to fix that.
Re: what went wrong during burnout???
you know what? Now that I think about it, it does kinda seem as if the tranny was in 2nd or 3rd gear. That would make it feel as if it was slipping.
So you guys are saying I actually ran the quarter in 3rd gear?
Thanks for the response!
