What is stronger LT1 or LS1 drive shaft?
What is stronger LT1 or LS1 drive shaft?
I was looking into a LS1 drive shaft for my car, I know itis lighter than the LT1 shaft but being aluminum wouldnt that make it weaker??
and which yokes stronger?? if there is even a difference.
Thanks.

Re: What is stronger LT1 or LS1 drive shaft?
the ls1 shaft used to be the lt1 1le shaft. the regular lt1 cars has a steel shaft the factory steel shaft had a tsb. it would vibrate at speeds. swaping rear end gears made the problem much worse. the gm fix was repalce it with a 1le aluminum shaft. the they just stopped using the steel shaft. the steel shaft is stronger but is prone to vibrations.
Re: What is stronger LT1 or LS1 drive shaft?
Well, the steel shaft in mine doesn't seem to cause too much vibration, so I'll stick with it thanks
. I've seen some pictures of snapped aluminum ones!!!
They're pretty thin looking, IMO

.I guess you are talking about you 2nd gen cars because your LS1 should have the Aluminum shaft stock from the factory.
my steel shaft dosent have any vibration issues either but if I can get a lighter one for not too much I will ...if it is as strong or stronger but I wont if its weaker.

did 2.73 cars come with steel drive shafts??
if so I never knew that.
Re: What is stronger LT1 or LS1 drive shaft?
If you get a rattling steel shaft just take it out and have it balanced at a machine shop. When you are going 100mph+ you don't want to break a drive shaft; that would be one mean pogo stick to bounce around on. Chances are, it will break through the floor at that speed too.

. A4 LS1's with 2.73's got a steel driveshaft
.Oh, and based on recent events, it seems that U-joints are more likely to fail than a driveshaft
......especially between a ~425HP, 355 small block, 4-speed tranny, 4.10 gears, and ET Streets!!

...yeah, the '73 is now sporting a TH350 slushbox
.BUT, the steel driveshaft held up
.Oh, but the 4-speed Borg Warner T-10 didn't make it either

Well this is interesting to hear.I have many ls1 buddies and have ls1 car myself.Several are over the 500 hp engine mark either Na or with spray and so far not one has had a problem with the ls1 driveshaft.I have read in think high tech that the stock lt1 is not strong and for sure the 1le is stronger and I think thicker than the ls1.I guess it depends on if you are going to run 1.5 or so 60fts for normal racing and messing around the ls1 driveshaft seems fine.
I have planned though to go with a lingenfelter one in my ls1 and moved my ls1 stock driveshaft to my 96 z28.
I have not heard any of this ls1 driveshafts braking on ls1.com and been reading that forum for years.
