What is so freaking spectacular about a GM stock replacement throw-out bearing?!?!?!

Hi,

I was just up at my local GM dealer to price a throw-out bearing for my 94 B4C and I almost hit the floor when the very uneducated parts guy took 25 mins just to tell me that the freakin thing was $205!!!! WTF!! I could by a complete junk stock replacement clutch from Auto Zombies for that much. I mean come on here. What would make that thing so great to charge half the price of the clutch kit for it?? Can anyone please shine some light on this for me? Thank alot

Jeremy

It's special because it is rather rare. The LT1 is one of the few engines that uses a pull style pressure plate as opposed to the normal push style that is found on most everything else.

If you go to Autozone you can get a TO bearing for about half of what your dealer wanted for one.

Yeah I went to AutoZombies and they were quite a bit less. Jason Short is gonna hook me up with a good used one till I get my new clutch. I was also wandering if the SPEC stage 4 has its own specific throw-out bearing or does it require a stock one?

Spec uses the LT4 throw out bearing with their clutch. It is the rectangular one not the stock LT1 that is round. This is what Dave at Spec told me and what I had used for my Stage 3 and now my Stage 4. Remember to replace your pilot bearing since you are in there anyway, only cost $1.50 for the pilot bushing or ~$10 for the stock pilot bearing.

The stage 4 X-pad unsprung clutch disk is awesome with no chaterring issue and is much easier to drive than the Stage3. I did not even have to break it in like the Stage3. However, for me, they are both very easy to drive.

good luck

Thanks for the info, I just swapped my A4 for a T56 and just installed a new pilot bearing. I swapped it all in with a Centerforce clutch and I HATE it. When you get it hot it doesnt fully disengauge, and it wont go into revurse. And my tranny that i bought had some issuses so I have to pull it anyway and I want to swap in a new clutch. Thanks again for the info.
