I broke my 10 bolt and need to replace the gears. The car is a M6 and it had aftermarket 3.73s in it. So what series gear set do I need to get? Are there some marking that I can look for to tell this?

I think that is correct. Can anyone confirm that?

All 1994 and newer M6 cars left the factory with 3.42 gears, using a 3-series carrier. The only cars that got the 2-series carrier are the cars equipped with the GU2 2.73 gears ("base" A4's and 93 wide ratio T56's).
