What rear end do I have?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if any of you know what rear end I have by this number:

26041414
GM D

I searched but did not come up with anything. Thanks.

Where did that number come from?

If you're asking what type of rear end it is, if it's stock, it's a 7.625" 10-bolt. If it's not stock, take a picture of it and post it and we'll help you identify it. If, on the other hand, you're asking what the gear ratio is, there are three ways that we can tell.

1. Look on the RPO code sticker:

The sticker is on the end of the driver door. Open the door and look for one of the following codes:
GU2 - 2.73:1
GU4 - 3.08:1
GU5 - 3.23:1
GU6 - 3.42:1

2. Process of elimination:

If you have a stickshift V6, you have 3.23 gears.
If you have an automatic V6, you have 3.08 gears.
If you have a stickshift V8, you have 3.42 gears.
If you have an automatic V8 and the shifter on the console allows you to select "1", you have 3.23 gears.
If you have an automatic V8 and the shifter on the console only allows you to go down to "2", you have 2.73 gears.

3. Use math! This is the only method that works if the car is modified.

Use a calculator ([url=http://www.fbody.org/gears]fbody.org/gears[/i] is a decent one) to determine what your maximum speed is in a given gear with a given gear ratio. Experiment until you find the one that matches up with what your car really does.

It's probably a casting number for the housing.

Signature shows he has a 93. The 1993 M6's did not come with 3.42:1 gears. They had either 2.73 (with the M28) or 3.23 (with the M29).
