If you are just pulling the trans to have work done to it you don't need to mess with the clutch at all. The trans bolts on to the clutch bellhousing, you dont have to touch the clutch to remove the trans. Just dont push down on the clutch pedal while the trans is out or you will have to re-align the disc.

i'm having the clutch looked at because it won't let me get into reverse at all unless my car is not running and it has a hard time getting into first and down shifting. so i had it looked at and they said that it could be the pressure plate or something is hitting the input shaft on the tranny. any info would be great thanks!

Kind of a misleading title and question if thats the problem your having. I'm not sure how the PP could be hitting the input shaft but I've never worked with or seen a ST. Maybe your PP isnt releasing enough, it could be a problem with the clutch master cylinder, I think I've heard the ST comes with an adjustable master cylinder.

sorry about the title, i was reading somewhere and thought i read about how something needs to be rebalanced or surfaced before installing. if someone new more about the ST and could give me some pointers that would be awesome! thanks!

yes, unless your 396 is using a stock balance flyhweel.... and even then i think i'd still recommend having it done
if your motor is internally balanced, you will want the street twin balanced to "0" .... supposedly if you take the weight off the back of the flywheel this will make it 0, but even with the weight removed mine still had to be balanced.
if your motor is balanced through the flywheel, you'll need to take both flywheels down there and have them make the ST match your old one.

What about not being able to downshift and getting it into first at a dead stop? cuz its also not letting me do those two things either.

guess i should have read that whole post and not just skimmed over it. i am not too sure about why it would act like that. but if you find out let me know, my st is coming in a week or 2.
