What is needed for 4.10 install on 136k mi car?
My car has 136,000 miles on it and I plan on getting some 4.10's for my car by the end of Dec. Here is what I plan on getting for sure:
1. 4.10's (which are best strength/noise?)
2. Take-off Torsen diff
3. Installation kit w/new bearings (what kit will I need, from where?)
4. Solid pinion spacer
What else will I need? Is this all I need for the basic install? What brand gears to get? Where is the best place to get an installation kit? (cost is an issue)

sounds like your wasting a lot of money on a 10 bolt
Just get the gears and thats it.. If your rear end isn't broken just re-use the bearings.. Or get an install kit.. Other than that your just wasting money on the differential etc.

The Torsen take-off is only $100, and my stock posi is going out, plus the car will be 99% daily driver, with occasional autocross, and maybe a run down the local 1/8th 1-3 times a year, so I am going to at least get the Torsen. My engine only has about 68k on it, its just the rear end that needs a little freshening up. I don't plan on getting a 12 bolt for quite a while, not till I do everything else I want with the car and start on motor, which will be quite a while.
-So you don't think it would be worth it for me to go ahead and get some new bearings in that 136k mi, 8 year old rear end? I would think it would be worth it, right?
-What about the "paddle kit" that SLP sells for the 4.10 install, is that really necessary for the Torsen?
-also, what are the best gears in terms of strength/noise?
-Where should I get an installation kit?

When I do the gear swap I'm gonig to get Gm Motive gears...they seem to be the favorite/quietest. Check out www.thunderRacing.com for gear install kits and such, they have the best selection I've seen
