What Gears Do I need?
What Gears Do I need?
My LT1's got a .560/.569 cam and a 3200 stall, but off the line it takes a while to get moving. Once it hits 4000rpm all the horsepower picks it up quick. It has 700r4 and a 3.23. Are 3.42 or 3.73 gears what I need? But I dont want to be at more than 2500rpm@70mph, since this is my daily driver. Its around 2200rpm@70mph right now.
Re: What Gears Do I need?
So are 3.23's too small with a 3200-6500 powerband? Are the 3.73's gonna make a more noticeable difference over 3.42's? Cuz I have an extra set of 3.42's

Re: What Gears Do I need?
There is about a .1 difference in the 1/4 between 3.42's and 3.73's from what I have seen, but since you already have an extra set of 3.42's I would put those in and see how you like them. You can always step up to 3.73's later.
Re: What Gears Do I need?
I wouldn't think you'd see a worthwhile gain going from a 3.23 to only a 3.42, but hey, if you've got 'em, might be worth a shot?
Since you've already done an aggressive cam and a stall converter, fuel mileage can't be your main concern, so I'd say go with 3.73's at least
. I've run both 3.73's and now 4.10's in my car (A4) and haven't noticed a huge mileage difference, even compared to the factory 2.73's
. Yes, there IS a difference, but really not that much between the 3.73/4.10.
