Urgent - What/Do I need a 12 bolt?
Urgent - What/Do I need a 12 bolt?
Hi All,
My car is having some problems on hard acceleration. Anytime I put the car into hard acceleration there is a loud bang/popping sound at the back of the car when it changes gears. I tried something, I put the car into OD, put the parking break on, and it made the pop still at a high RPM. I really need help figuring it why it would be doing this while driving and staying parked in 1st gear.
We even manually shifted the car up to 3rd and it still did it all the way.
I know the camaro's have weak back ends and I was planning on putting on a 12 bolt, but I have no idea where to start.
1) do you think a 12 bolt might fix it?
2) what do I need
3) where to buy and how much should I plan on spending.
Its an automatic camaro z28 1996. I plan on adding 373 gears too it as well.
I made a post about this yesterday, but this one is a bit more related to the 2 bolt.
It does not do this at all when I accelerate normal and soft, so that is what I am doing for now.
The whole car seems to kick when it does this.
help!!!
Thanks
Jason

Re: Urgent - What/Do I need a 12 bolt?
I agree with Injuneer I went to the track last year and on the way home I heard a loud banging noise on acceleration and I thought it was my rear... ended up being a torn tranny mount which cost me $30 to replace... gone down the strip around 20 times since then on drag radials with no problem
Re: Urgent - What/Do I need a 12 bolt?
Thanks guys, I will check it out today.
I never checked it before though and what should I be looking for?, any guides or should I be able to find it in my chilton book?

Re: Urgent - What/Do I need a 12 bolt?
The trans sits on a block of rubber (tranny mount), and the block of rubber sits on the cross-member. The rubber splits. Start jacking under the tranny..... if the mount lifts and separates, its broken.
The torque arm inserts into a clamshell housing attached to the tailshaft of the tranny. The housing has a rubber bushing all the way around the torque arm. If the rubber has deteriorated, the arm can hit the housing.
