Unplugging lock up

I'm having a real bad stumbling problem that my cousin/mechanic believe to most likely be the lock up on the converter. He suggested unplugging the lockup to determine if this is the culprit, and if it is, just to leave it unplugged. How much damage can running the converter without lock up do to the trans?

First of all, the plug that goes into your transmission controls the shifts and pressure also. You'd have to know which wire to cut. If you disconnect the TCC, you'll get a "SES" light.

Overdrive transmissions usually need lockup to keep from overheating. My 700 (hydraulically controlled) has a non lock-up converter in it, but it has an aftermarket valve in the pump that takes the place of the lock-up valve to help keep it cool.
