typical clutch break in procedure

I recently installed an SLP clutch, pressure plate and a new rear main. It doesnt leak a drop..woohoo! Anyways, I was wondering what you guys usually do to break in a new clutch? I have about 125 miles on it of relatively easy driving (some stop and go, which pissed me off), and i noticed the clutch pedal was a little spongy, and made a little squeaking noise. I was talking to a few guys and they told me that it was time crack her wide open (while the clutch was engaged, they said i shouldnt pop the clutch for a few hundred miles), and that seemed to make the sponginess stop, but the slight squeak is still there. I'm sure you know what squeak i am talking about, and i can kind of feel it in the pedal. Should i worry about it, or just keep driving. By the way, it engages smoothly with no chatter, so i really have no complaints.

thanks,
trav

typically 500mi of city driving...dont go on a road trip....stop and go driving with a lot of clutch usage is a plus. Some clutches chatter....some dont, mine did for first 100miles or so. It goes away. Just keep it under 3k rpm and take it easy.

i got on it a total of probably 2 or 3 times, and i took it up to about 4500 RPM. Do you think i hurt anything? This clutch deffinately grabs better than the tired out stock one, and i havent noticed any slipping after i gave it WOT a few times. I hope i dont have to tear everything apart again. What do u guys think? How would i know if i caused any damage?

thanks,
trav

are you serious about breaking it in at the drag strip? I have heard that a few times when i asked about break in...some people are like "what break-in". I dunno, it doesnt slip or do anything out of the normal, so i think i am just gonna take it a little easier on it, but not be too worried.

yes i am serious. I figured that would be the ultimate break in, lol. If it failed, well then it got sent back because it wasnt going to work for me anyways.

i dont think theres really a break in period for a clutch. maybe just take it easy to make sure it works but after the first mile you should have a good idea of that.

I was talking to a couple of guys that own their own shop and have been working on cars for years, and they looked at me funny when i talked about break-in. They were the ones that told me hammer it a few times and i would know if the clutch was working allright. I havent noticed and slipping or chatter, so i think i am ok.

on a side note...when the clutch is engaged (pedal out) and the transmission is in neutral, are there still parts in the tranny that are moving. While my car is parked (and running) i can hear a slight noise that sounds like brushing kind of. When i dis-engage the clutch the sound goes away. Now, is that just the sound of the transmission spinning? This is my first clutch install and i think i am paranoid.

thanks,
trav

this was my break in procedure for my street twin

finish install, bleed, drive 50 miles to drag strip, hold 5000 rpm, let dump on ET streets works well
