Two or three series question... (A4)

Ok, I know there is a way to look at the shifter indicators to see which one I have. I beleive I can shift odwn to 1st gear in mine. Which one do I have. I will be buying 3:73's soon and they say I need to know which series carrier I have. Thanks!

Look on your driver's side door at the RPO codes

GU2 - 2.73 (2 series)
GU5 - 3.23 (3 series) or by rpm/mph at

If it says 1 on your shifter and you can pull the shifter back into first then you have 3.23s.
RPO code will verify this.

***NOTE***

Just an FYI for anyone reading this..............using the method above (whether 1st gear can be selected or not) to determine 2.73's or 3.23's is ONLY applicable with LT1 F-bodies. GM changed that with LS1 cars. Even with 2.73's, you can now select 1st gear, whereas you could not with an LT1 car. This means you must go by the code listed above (GU2/GU5) or MPH @ a given RPM.

Another note on 1st gear selection - someone could have done the 2.73 gear selector mod
