TV cable adjustment

My TV cable was too tight. It had the trans shifting nice and tight, but I found it was not allowing the throttle to open all the way. So I adjusted the cable nice and snug while holding the throttle at WOT. I do not like the way it shifts now. It shifts too early for my taste at light throttle. It used to bark 2nd nicely at part throttle and now it will shift into 2nd before I am through the intersection unless I give it a lot of throttle. Leaving it in drive it will shift right about 5500-5800 into each gear though.
Are there any tricks to make this thing shift a little higher, but still allow my throttle to open all the way?
My 700R4 is newer right from GM with about 15,000 miles on it. It also has a B&M shift kit which I installed.

Thanks,
Rob

Sonnax Industries "Cable Corrector" part number AS1-01K.
Call me if you'd like one. I'll send you one out. 302-250-1202. Here's a picture of one installed...Don'r pay attention to the red circle. That was for another post. You're looking for what's right on the end of the cable.

The odd part about this is, your car should still go full throttle, even with the cable too tight. It SHOULD pull the TV cable out of adjustment, though.

It might actually go full throttle and pull the cable out if I mash the throttle hard. I was checking the range by hand when I noticed it. It would have been nice to find this out before I went to the track.

That cable corrector looks like a spring at the end of the cable connection? Does that allow the cable to be tighter at low throttle and at WOT the spring allows the throttle to rotate further with out pulling the cable any more?

Thanks,
I'll give you a call.

Yes. It allows for proper TV adjustment without pulling the cable out of adjustment. This was first developed for Sonnax when I worked at the shop who's owner invented it. (He now works for Sonnax). This is a common problem on Tuned Port, LT1, and Ford AXOD transmissions.

Frank, could that be used for a 200R4 for a similar purpose -or- help prevent transmission damage from a misadjusted cable?

It won't prevent damage if the cable is adjusted for too low pressure. You still have to be very careful on that one. Yes, it will work on a 2004R.

Throttle Valve Cable
The Throttle Valve (“TV”) cable must be installed and adjusted correctly for proper transmission operation. The TV cable adjustment affects shift point, shift feel, detents, and downshifts.

Adjust the TV cable after the transmission has been installed in the vehicle. Adjustment of the TV cable must be made by rotating the throttle lever at the carburetor or throttle body. Do not use the accelerator pedal to rotate the throttle lever.

Stop engine.

Depress and hold down the metal re-adjustment tab at the engine end of the TV cable.

Move the slider until it stops against the fitting.

Release the re-adjustment tab.

Rotate the throttle lever to its full travel position.

The slider must move (ratchet) toward the lever when lever is rotated to its full travel position.

Check that the cable moves freely. The cable may appear to function properly when the engine is stopped and cold. Recheck after the engine is hot.

Road test the vehicle.
