Re: tv cable?

if your car is 94 or newer you do not have a tv cable, 93 only had them. Odds are you tranny is due for a rebuild. Let me know what year car you have and we can help you from there.

Your TV cable is kinda like a kickdown cable, but it does more than that. If it is out of adjustment, it can be very bad for the tranny. You could try resetting it. With the car off, you push in the button on the side of the cable, near where it meets the carb/tbi bracket. With the button pushed in, you pulled the back of the cabled toward the firewall as far as it will go until it stops. Then, move your throttle lever to wide open throttle (as far as it will go). You will feel resistance on the cable, then it will click as you hit wide open throttle. It is then adjusted. Google search this if you are unsure how to do it. It really is very easy.

Also, check the level of fluid in the transmission.

Re: tv cable?

Hmmm...That's suprising because MOST transmission shops would try adjusting the TV cable for you if they thought that was the problem. It only takes about 2 minutes on your car.
Unfortunately, I don't think this is your problem. I hate to be the "bearer of bad news", but your 2-4 band is probably wasted. It's a common problem in 700's, and it will cause exactly what you're describing. If you drive it long enough, you'll probably lose 2nd gear all together also.

Re: tv cable?

my car is a 94 Z28 but the 700r4 and 4l60e are pretty close except for the tv cable as far as internals.. or at least i would think so since 700r4 is also called a 4l60... anyway mine started doin that really bad wouldnt shift at high rpms either and i changed all teh fluids and put a new filter in it along with a shift kit and it killed the trans after one very very hard higher rpm shift lol so needless to say im waitin on it to get back from the shop with its brand new performance trans built with a zoom rebuild kit and a very good local mechanic, but it sounds like your trans is about to go just like mine did, cause as i took it to the shop all 3 of my gears were slipping badly i kept it in drive to keep the shift kit from kickin in so i dunno about o/d but anymore than 1/8 throttle and the car would just start revvin up hah. anyway good luck and hope it is you're tv cable, but i was told the same thing about my car until i did some research on here and everyone that replied to my post was right, trans was goin and goin fast... im sure the shift kit didnt help but i already had the money for the rebuild and it was either make it last or kill it tryin anywayz good luck
