Trying to see if shop is pulling my leg about transmission fix

I took my car in which currently has 114k miles. The problem was that every time I would switch gears there would be a metal grinding noise. So I took it too them and he figured it would be the pilot bearing was damaged so he had to take my clutch out to fix that which would only cost me 200 bucks plus 25 to resurface the flywheel. Then he said that this damaged the input shaft and he would have to charge me another 400 for labor and a new input shaft that was grinded down to much. He also said my synchros were a little damaged and I could get those fixed for another 300. I told him no on the synchros. Also the clutch I have in there is a spec stage IV so it should be able to hold anything. I am wondering if this is possible for what he is saying about everything or if I am getting screwed on the deal. Let me know asap.

Actually doesn't dound too far off from what I know of the process...

Basically remove and install the tranny & replace the pilot bearing (Make sure he replaces it with a bushing, NOT the bearing) for $200 - pretty close

disassemble and re-assemble the tranny & a new input shaft for $400 - fairly close as well; if I remember correctly the entire tranny must be disassembled to replace the input shaft.

Syncro's, well, I'm not sure about this...

If it was me, I'd pull the tranny myself, replace the bushing/bearing, have the flywheel cut, and send the tranny to a shop for a rebuild...

I'm with 97. The tranny isn't hard to pull if you do that kind of stuff yourself. Neither is the clutch and the pilot bearing is a piece of cake to get out and replace. You may need a slide hammer or something similar to pop the old one out. No biggie. I would also take the tranny to a shop. If you don't have any issues shifting gears or popping out of gear, then you may want to consider passing on the syncro swap. But on the other hand, if he's gonna have it all apart, and you have the money, i'd have any worn parts replaced while their in there. But labor wise, there probably about right on the cost of things. Its the determination about whats wrong is what i'd be cautious about.
