Transmission replacement

My 1995 Z28's transmission just went bad and I have been away from the Camaro upgrade scene for a while, since I have been concentrationg on updating my CBR100RR and CBR600F4i. I am thinking of having the dealership replace the transmission with a remanufactured OEM transmission. Is there an aftermarket tranmission that is better and cheaper than the OEM? Is there anything I should have them do thats not to expensive while they have the transmission out? Thanks

Oh, forgot to add its going to cost $2000 installed.

I've not purchased anything from these folks, have not had a need yet, but they say they build a better unit. PROBUILT @ 909-795-1876.

Re: Transmission replacement

I would not recommend buying a new tranny from GM, there are many places out there that can rebuild the tranny you have much better then it could have ever came from the factory. I chose to go with Frank at CPT when I needed mine rebuilt.

Depending on where you are and your mechanical abilities, I say just pull the tranny yourself and ship it off to a good builder. Your costs should be much less then $2K, but if you want to do other things with it out then you may also try looking to put a torque converter in att he same time.

Not sure the price of converters through CPT, but still shold be less the $2k if you can pull it out and put it back in yourself.
