transmission problems

I was in the process of adding some upgrades in my camaro(Z28 6 speed manual ex patrol car) and my transmisson dont want to go into reverse. I took the car to a shop and they want to charge me 1000 dlls just for labor. is that kind of an excessive amount? I dont know. Ive looked up some paces in the internet for a replacementand for 300 more I can get a decent one. I am very mechanically incline. Ive replaced motors and trns In older cars. long story short. 1. should I let the shop rebuilt the transmission. 2. shoud I buy the used trans with 56000+ miles for $1300 3. how difficult is it to change it my self. any info is appricited

Re: transmission problems

Its mostly just like the older cars you've worked on pretty much, just a hydraulic master/slave added in.
