Transmission not shifting in my 94 Z28!!

Can somebody give me an idea as to where to start here please? I have a 94 Z28 with a Lt1. The car has been parked for a couple of years. I would start it & bring it out of the garage to wash it now & again but never really took it for a drive. The fuel pump went out so I got that fixed, tagged & insured it, went to drive it to town & it won't shift!! It won't kick down into passing gear either. It shifts when I do it manually but not on it's own! It has to be something that's seized up from sitting all that time I would think! I appreciate everyone's help!

Sounds like you got off lucky. From your description, sounds like 1--or both--of the shift solenoids are bad. You can determine this by running an OBDI code scan. Can't remember the exact code, but it's something like P07xx; if you go to Shoebox's site (4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids), there is a listing of all the DTCs. The solenoids are accessible by draining the fluid & dropping the pan. Or if you verify the code, you can take it to a tranny shop and have them do it.

Fortunately, when you started it up during the repose & moved it, the tranny fluid was able to circ, even if not ideally (like when driving it regularly). That has likely saved your azz.

All 94 codes, engine and transmission, are 2-digit DTC’s. Pxxxx is OBD-2.

Shoebox's list is accurate. For more details beyond the code definition, download (free) a copy of the 1994 factory service manual, courtesy of GaryDoug.

Must be thinkin' of the Jeep--it's tough when you have multiple vehicles. Esp. when it's time to pay the insurance.

Did you know on the WJs, you can do KOEO 3 times quick, then a 4th and hold it; look down and the odometer will show any/all DTCs. Don't need a reader. Pretty handy when you're out somewheres and something goes wrong.
