Beefing Up My '94 Z28
Hey all-
Note to Admins:
I've decided to put this post in THIS forum because the topics discussed here can be put in a few the different sections and I'd like to have all the information people provide lumped here. But close this thread if you must and I'll seperate my posts.
I've got a '94 Z28 with over 152,000 miles. At the beginning of the summer I will have a chance to drop the engine out and am doing my homework on the most cost effective upgrades possible right now. I'm looking to bring in about 350-400 hp when all is said and done. Changing the plugs and plug wires is a definite. What else could I do to the engine to give it a little more go? An exhaust system could add a few hp and would make it sound better. Any advice on what to look for? Lastly, what increased air intakes have worked for you guys? A new hood and scoop would probably work best but that's not in the plans for this year. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So i am guessing you will be dropping the motor for a rebuild?
As of now, Stick with some AC delco plugs, and upgrade to 8mm wires. I bought Taylor 8mm wires off LS1speed.com and am very happy with them because of their direct fit.
Change your fuel filter, and check all Fluids!
Catback... they will all give decent gains over a stock exhaust system. I went with Borla exhaust and LOVE IT
because you can adjust with restricter plates. I did see in the for sale forum a couple Borla's for sale. Many people like hooker exhaust and GMMG. STAY AWAY FROM FLOWMASTER..more like rust master.
Used borla's> http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...=borla+exhaust
Intake, Stay away from G2 Intakes. I went with a SLP intake..good intake, but the downside to an SLP is unbolting the plastic under the car to get to the filters. K&N,moroso, and couple other's are also good with easier installation. IF your leaning towrads "RAM AIR"..using any of the above Intakes will give you the same gains as using a Ram air box and hood.
-Need more questions awnsered, use the search button because im sure a topic you are looking for has been covered many of times.
ENJOY AND WELCOME TO THE BOARD

Once you do the basic intake and exhaust mods, the next most effective mods make perfect sense as long as you have the motor out of the car.
Since you'll be buying new pistons anyways, why not buy a 3.750" crank and make it a 383? Eagle has a new cast LT1 383 crank for $333.00 that would do the job, and it is durable up to 500 hp. Stock LT1 Powdered Metal connecting rods are rated good up to 450 hp.
Have your heads ported and then gasket match them to your intake manifold.
Find a nice cam that suites your desires.
Have your stock throttle body overbored to 52mm. Install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
get a couple hours of dyno tuning and you are looking at 425 rear wheel horsepower.
