Question Transmission LT1 , LS1

Hello all,

I know its engine section but there isn't a trans section anymore for LT1, LS1 .

Is there any difference in the durability of these 2 transmissions? ( M6 )
How much power can they handle stock?
Is it possible to mod these to handle 700rwhp ? What has to be done? ( gears and rear end ) What might be the cost rough estimate? Is it at all possible?

What is the best bang for the buk way to make your f-body trans to handle 700rwhp ?

Thank you for your input

There are many threads for turbo kits and high HP numbers , but I have so much trouble in finding out how durable are LT1 and LS1 transimissions.

Yes, there is a forum.... "Drivetrain". I'll move it there for you.

LS1 has a longer input shaft, and the T/O bearing hydraulic assembly is mounted on the front cover of the trans, concentric with the input shaft. Consequently, it uses a conventional "pusher" type clutch, rather than the lever operated "pullback" design of the LT1.

I'm planning to have 550 rwhp on a LS1 camaro, and I might just want to N2O it maybe later on. So I need the transmission to handle that power flawlessly as I plan to go on the strip.

I know T-56 won't nearly handle it. What upgrades or what rear end and clutch would you recommend? or what are my options?

There are upgrades to the T56 that will handle that kind of power. Check out D&D and Keisler

Then there's always "Tranzilla" and "Son of Tranzilla":

Rear axle assembly choices:

Strange or Moser 12-bolt
Strange 60
Moser 9-inch or M9
