transmission leaking

I was reading an earlier thread of a similar problem that i am having with my 4L60E transmission. When I was driving I started to see smoke coming out from under my car as I looked out my passenger window. When I got home I left the car running and looked under and saw that trans fluid was getting all over my cat converter which was burning it.But my trans didnt throw all the fluid it just leaks, my car still runs and seems to shift fine. There was also trans fluid on that metal piece that is over the cat, the one that is the reason we have that hump in the passenger floor board. Any big problems that may be associated with this happening.I am going to take my car this weekend to get a trans flush with new filter and gasket, hope this helps. second opinions would be really helpful. Oh, and my car only has about 43K miles, but I do drive it like I stole it.

Re: transmission leaking

That gasket is in all likelyhood NOT your problem. Iwould check the shaft seal, which is a expensive repair.

Re: transmission leaking

I was under my car today and noticed that every bolt on the transmission pan was a little more than a full turn loose, maybe thats why it was leaking. i drove the car around the block and when I got home the pan wasn't leaking anymore but it seems that my cat converter was still burning off trans fluid that was on it. I'm gonna take it to get the trans flushed with new filter and gasket.I also checked out the entire trans and found no leakage around anywhere else except towards the rear before the driveshaft, but my driveshaft was not covered in trans oil. Any suggestions, anyone.

Re: transmission leaking

Could have just been that, or it could be the front pump seal and/or O-ring. Get that fluid, filter, and gasket changed and see if it stops. At any rate, the new fluid may hurt an already damaged transmission but you say it shifts ok. Ask to see whats in the pan and report back. I wouldnt recommend getting it "flushed" with noe of those machines. Ive seen too many retards f*ck peoples transmissions up because they dont know how to operate them correctly. If the front is leaking, it has to come out and at least be re-sealed and have a new pump bushing put in.

Re: transmission leaking

Im getting it flushed at a GM dealership and from what I saw the trans was only leaking from the pan before I tightened up the bolts.Should I stick with dexron mercon oil or switch to synthetic.
