Could be a few things, but when my 96 did this, it turned out the input drum had failed. There is a groove at the edge that retains some of the clutch packs (don't recall which as this was 6 years ago) and the tabs kept shearing off. Not sure if this is a common issue or YOUR issue, but one of the tranny experts will hopefully chime in.

I didn't fix it myself. The tranny was done by a well-known race tranny specialist at the far east of Ohio. He believed my issue was caused by excessive line pressure, but I got rid of the car before I had a chance to investigate that. I was using a Hypertech programmer at the time, and it's possible the increased firmness built into the tranny with the rebuild, combined with the shift firmness improvements of the Hypertech, created a situation with too much line pressure, although I had completely uninstalled the Hypertech tuning after the rebuild. Unless you have specialized tranny tools and knowledge, I wouldn't tackle this job yourself.

I just got my car back from the shop today... Said the transmission is basically junk..
3 of 4 sensors are bad
and most of all the bands are shot and the computer showed slippage in all the gears.

Good news is found another one i can just bolt right up to it..
