1995 6-speed fluid capacity

I bought 4 quarts of Valvoline Dextron III to change my tranny fluid with. My manual says the capacity is 8 pints, which would be 4 quarts. Yet, I read people on this site adding 4 quarts and then a quart of additive. I'm not going to add anything except ATF, but how much will it take? I don't want to drain it and not have enough to fill it up again. Thanks

Also what is the capacity of the rear end?

You mean running out of the fill hole?

Just remove the fill hole plug and fill with fluid via the shift hole. Keep filling until fluid starts coming out fo the fill hole, then just install the fill plug and your're ready to go.

Re: 1995 6-speed fluid capacity

I used a syringe pump and it took all but just a little probably 3.75 quarts before it started running out of the fill hole. I took it down the road and back, the shifts are noticable smoother. I should have changed it when I bought it, 3 years ago. It had gotten pretty notchy lately. The old fluid was red but it was muddy looking. The new of course was red and clear. I also changed my oil from 10w-40 to 10w-30, no biggie.

By "shift hole" do you mean the same hole the plug is in?

No... he means pull the shifter off, and pour the fluid in the hole for the shifter.
