my apologies for my ignorance, but is there a way to find out what tranny i have in my 6 speed 02 z? i dont like the stock shifter and would like to replace it. is there a new site that interprets the vin, rpo or any other code?

If you have an '02 6-speed manual, it is the T-56, made by Tremec in Mexico. That is all you need to know to buy a shifter. Just tell them its for an F-Body T-56 and they will know which one you need. Just don't get the shifter for some of the other cars that use the T-56, like the Cobra, Viper, GTO, CTS-V, etc.
