Re: transmission help

Scan the PCM for transmission related codes. They don't turn on the SES light, so you don't know if they are set, unless to scan the PCM.

We have at least one trans builder that responds to posts like this on the "Drivetrain" forum. I'll move you post there to improve your chances of getting a knowledgeable response.

Re: transmission help

Hey Fred, were you referring to me?...LOL. When you say it just revs if you put it in drive, do you mean you have to put the shifter in manual 2nd to get it to move forward? Once you get it moving, can you manually upshift it through all the gears? If so, it's most likely the input sprag. The sprags were a weak area in the 4L60E. We always update them to the superior Borg Warner "dual cage" 29 element sprag to prevent it from happening again. If your saying the car goes forward until it tries to make a 2-3 shift, but almost seems like it goes into neutral, it's most likely the 3-4 clutches. Another weak area in a factory 4L60E. The ONLY year trans that will work in your car is a 1994. They were a "stand alone" year. A trans out of a V-8 1994 Camaro/Firebird, 1994 Impala/Caprice, or 1993-1994 Chevrolet truck will physically bolt in and work. A trans out of anything other than an F-Body will require a tail housing swap to use your torque arm tail housing.
Keep in mind that a junk yard trans will still have all the design flaws...If you find one that even works. You might want to check out having yours rebuilt.

Re: transmission help

Your 3-4 clutches are wasted. It's going to need a rebuild.

I explained in my post above that ONLY a 1994 transmission (or TRUCK '93-'94) will work. It also has to come from behind a V-8 or 4.3 V-6. A 2.8, 3.1 or 3.4 transmission won't work.
