Question Transmission Help!

I have a 95 z28 M4, the tranny went out in it a while back and Im in the process of swapping it. Im having a REALLY hard time getting the bellhousing bolts out. I picked up a new impact wrench today to get them out and they wont budge at all. Everything else is unhooked, all I need are these last 6 bolts and i can get the old one out. Anyone have some tips for getting these things to loosen up? And if it matters at all im doing this w/o removing the motor, and i can tell some of these are going to be a real pain to get a ratchet on let alone break free.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chris

What is an M4? I'm going to assume you mean it's an A4, automatic.

Assuming you've already removed the transmission cross-member and the trans is hanging, I've found that the best way to get the bellhousing bolts out is to use a LONG extension (3 feet plus) and leverage. Use a good 6-point socket and with enough umph, they should come out fairly easily.

Whoa man, sounds like a job... I thought for sure there were only four of these bolts, though. At any rate, try some PB Blast and get something like this:

They work amazing, but make sure you have the tightest fitting socket or you will strip the bolts.

One of those bolts wont come all the way out due to the firewall being in the way you will have to leave it in the trans until you remove it. Also i dont like to give this kind of advice but i had to use some pb blast and bang on the head of the bolts gently for a while knocking them loose. Because the worse thing you could do would be to strip a bolt or bust a bolt then there would be drilling envolved you just have to be patient even though you just want to kick the hell out of it i know i did. Also i always loosen the bolts before i take the trans cross member off otherwise the leverage of the trans hanging even if slightly will cause those bolts to be tighter with those threads. so i attempt to loosen the threads while everything is still in place other than the heads and intake. Good luck man
