Transmission fluid leak

I am having a minor transmission fluid leak and I was wondering if anyone can help me. Its just drippin a little bit over the edges of the pan. Im pretty sure its just the gasket. Is that probably it?

Well, Id like to change my trans fluid. I havent found a good guiude on the automatic trans if anyones got one. Do i just jack the car up, take the pan off, let it drain, change the filter, scrape the metal off the magnet, change the gasket, put the pan back on, fill it up, and let it go?
How much trans fluid do i need (should i go synthetic for it), and how much would a gasket cost?

A jiffy lube told me it costed 200$ for the job but i know its definentally too much to pay for that.

Should i do anything else while the pan is open?

Re: Transmission fluid leak

It's an easy job, get the car in the air, pull the drain plug and let the fluid out. Remove the pan. Remove the filter. Replace with new filter. scrape any gasket material and put the new one in. Bolt the pan back on. Buy as much fluid as you have sitting in the container you drained the trans fluid in to.

I heard that you have to do it more than once to get all the fluid out, Is there anything i can do to get as much of it out as possible? or does it not really matter?

Re: Transmission fluid leak

how many miles are on your car? did the guy you bought it from change the oil at all? if it hasnt been done in a while a transmission flush might be a good thing to do. a flush made a noticeable difference on my truck (which has 186k on it, but still)

How much do the gaskets cost?
Should i use normal or synthetic fluid? I havent really used any synthetic on my car because I am iffy about its high mileage. What do you say?
