Transmission Cooler Install Questions...
Transmission Cooler Install Questions...
I have yet to install the cooler b/c I have FTRA on order. How will this interfere with the install location of the cooler? Thanks. Also, how is the LS1 setup different compartment wise from the install on the LT1 as is done on Brents page:

I got looking at all the lines in their. Which ones do I unhook and hook up to the cooler??? I read the instructions posted at LS1.com
Installing a Trans Cooler
1. Empty the contents of the Trans Cooler Kit. I used a B&M 24,000GVW Cooler.
2. Remove the rubber caps from the input/output flares on the cooler.
3. Take the supplied tubing and fold it in half. Cut it so you have 2 equal lengths.
4. Use two of the supplied hose clamps and slide them onto the two rubber tubing pieces.
5. Slide the each piece of tubing onto the input/output flares.
6. Tighten the hose clamps.
7. Install the cooler in front of the A/C Condenser and use supplied ties and secure the cooler to the Condenser/Radiator.
8. Route the tubing up to the top of the raidator.
9. Cut the plastic and route the tubing
10. Remove the top fitting from the stock trans cooler. This is on the passenger side of the radiator.
11. Use the supplied brass bard fitting and install teflon tape on the threads.
12. Thread the fitting into the stock trans cooler.
13. Slide the flare nut back on the line that was removed from the radiator.
14. Now, route the lines and cut the tubing to fit.
15. Slide on the supplied hose clamps on to the tubing.
16. Make the connections.
17. Start the car up and top off the trans fluid level. I used 3/4 of a quart.
16. Check for leaks.
but was unsure of what was going on. I know it sounds stupid, but I am clueless when I went to put it on today before I remembered that my FTRA would be in the way.

With the FTRA you need to be creative when installing a cooler. I did mine "dope" style (horizontally under the right front facia at the top of the air dam). The link I used no longer works but here's one showing a cooler installed vertically next to the FTRA if you want to do it that way. www.johnbrown.net/wilwaxu/transcooler.html
Installation is easy. Find the rubber/metal trans cooler line running parallel with the bottom of the radiator, remove the clamp, separate them, and install the cooler in between them. PM me if you have any questions.

One alternative is using a fan assisted cooler. Then you can mount it just about anywhere. I mounted mine in the front end of the drivers side fender, where the cold air intake would normally sit for an LT1.

back from the dead...but thats a very nice setup on your car Fred, I may just do that when My WS6 hood gets here and the air intake stuff is out of the way....
