trans shifting problem.

I have a 1993 Z28. Just bought it from out of state. Was shifting fine un til I did a hole shot in it. Now I'm having problems getting it in to drive and overdrive. Car sat for a while before I got it. Could a flush and filter change help. Or tighten bands. All help would be appreciated

Re: trans shifting problem.

You don't "tighten the bands" on a 4L60 transmission. What condition is the fluid in? Does it smell burnt? Is it dark brown or black? A fluid change won't help, and whatever you do, DON'T put any additives in it. Nothing makes more of a mess out of a transmission than Lucas does. Is your 1-2 timing still correct? It should be between 15-18 MPH under normal throttle. The 3-4 clutches are a known problem area in stock 700/4L60 transmissions.
