Issues With My Transmition?
Hi All,
I am new to this site so forgive any wrong doings. I love camaros, I always have. My first was when I was 18, it was a gorgeous custom pin stripping 1984. I purchase my 2nd one in 2002. The one I have now is a 1995 red convertible 305/Lt1. I sadly had left this car sit in the elements for over 4 years due to raising a family. I shipped it away to a repair shop a few months ago praying that I could save it. What he found was all tires needed to be replaced, the serp belt, rotors and brakes and I also needed a tranny mount.
After 4 months on his lot he gave it back to me with the air con filter clogged, collant light lit (told me that the pump was stuck) and the real issue it doesnt feel like it is shifting right for me.
When I drive at a steady 25mph the car seems to rev way too loud without shifting to the next level. When I give it gas it wont accelerate. I lift my foot completely off the gas and try again and then I can get acceleration. Also, when I take the car from 30-60mph abruptly it tacks way in the red line until I let off, it will not shift into a higher gear. I took it back to the mechanic that charged me over 1600 to do the work and he checked the tranny fluid (which was dry) he told me that he thought they had checked that. (oops). He filled it and told me to just drive it that it will work itself out. Is this proper advice? Seriously?? Can someone please help answer what they think is wrong? I dont know anything about vehicles, all I know is a ton of money is going out the window to fix my baby and its not as it once was.

Re: Issues With My Transmition?
Welcome to the forum. First, your LT1 is a 350, not a 305. As far as the transmission, how is it working now that he has put the correct amount of fluid in it? Where did the fluid that was in it go? Obviously, the transmission has to have the correct amount of fluid to operate correctly. The problem is, running it low can cause internal damage. Have you counted the shifts. Your car should have 4 forward gears and lock up. Lock up feels like a vague shift when the clutch in the torque converter applies. Count your shifts to make certain they are all there. After you confirm that, let me know and we will see if we can diagnose it past there.

Re: Issues With My Transmition?
I am sorry about that slip, yes 350. My 1984 was a 305. I had it out the other day but sadly not enough area around here to get a good test with all the traffic. It seems if I start out slow and take it to 25 it stays in 1st gear. If I accelerate quickly and go to 45 it will shift at about 2000rpm but never hits 3rd. When I saw the trans fluid being poured into it I cannot actually tell you if it was done correctly in the right amount. I had thought that the tranny fluid from sitting for all those years dried up?
The only thing done after the 4 year sit was a different battery, brakes, rotors, serp belt, new top and tires. I was told its good to go. 3180.00
It did require a new tranny mount which I find extremely odd after having a mount put on immediately prior to the 4 yr down time.

Re: Issues With My Transmition?
This just isn’t my 1995 beauty that I let sit, it’s not even close to functioning as the same car as it once was. I have to pay out the nostrils for people to work on it and it seems like no one takes me seriously. This car sat for 4 months on the lot before it was even looked at. There is no excuse for that. I had a broken out back window and in the meantime while it sat uncovered, my back flooded from rain water. I soaked up 4 inches of water from my back seat wells and let it air out.
