trans noise

I have a 95 TA 6spd and the trans has started to make a "growling" sound while in gear. Sounds like the gears are not meshing together. It goes into gear fine and doesn't try to pop out of gear. It only does this occasionally, but it seems to be happening more often. Any ideas what it may be? Also if I have to rebuild it, what is a fair price for the rebuild and parts only. With me pulling the trans and putting it back in. Thanks

Does it only do this under load or all the time. Does it do it when your at a high gear and low RPM?

It doesn't seem to matter if there is a load on it. The last time it made the noise I was going slow in heavy traffic. I think I was in 1st and second gear. The car is not a daily driver so I cant really say how often it does this. I drove it today about 50 miles and everything was fine. I dont know if I should be worried or not.

does it growl when sitting still in idle? and goes away if you press in the clutch? could be the throw out bearing...

No, it only does it while your moving. It is coming from the transmission, the clutch and throw out bearing seem to be working fine. I am going to drive it more often for the next few weeks. Maybe I can tell more about when its actually makeing the sounds. Thanks

Try draining and replacing the fluid. Is the outer casing of the transmission wet (transmission leak) wondering if maybe the fluid is low.

My transmission is a bit noisy in first, sounds like they are straight gears instead of helical... Just going to keep driving until something gives..
