Trans leak
Trans leak
Alright the other day i parked in the parking lot and on my way out of the store i noticed a huge puddle under my car.it was trans fluid, now the day before i noticed i was a quart low.i check it because i smelt trans fluid.now after noticing the huge puddle in the parking lot i limped my car home.it shifted normally.i figured front seal because when i got home it ws pouring out of the dust cover.but now today while searching this site,im hearing about pump bushings?now if somthing went wrong with the pump, would it still drive normal?i mean i couldve filled the trans and itll drive/shift good until i run low on fluid.anyways i have the trans almost out now.what should i look for or do while its out?my plans are to replace front and rear trans seal and rear engine seal.thanks in advance
GM used junk pump bushings in these transmissions. They're very prone to literally falling out of the pump. If this has happened to yours, you may replace the front seal, but it may not fix the leak. To further intensify the problem, many times when the bushing "walks", it will also crack the pump, itself. The ONLY way to accurately identify, and fix the leak is to pull the pump out of the transmission, and disassemble it.
There may also be a chance that the torque converter has a bad hub. The seals wear into the hub, the welds crack, and we've seen broken hubs. If the weld has a pin hole, the only way you'll find it is through pressurizing the converter.
