Trans leak
Trans leak
hy all !
some questions .....
my 4l60e leaks ,i think ,at the front of the pump, can not clearly see, not heavy ,but allways a few drips.
is the only way to see where it realy leaks ,to remove the trans ? i remove the cover of the converter but i didnt see anything
since i drove 9000 mls i had to refill all in all one quart
i have a new gasket and seal package for rebuild .
whats your opinion ,should i do the work and remove the trans ? or only then when its leaks more .and whats with the trans stop leaks fluids =? are they good ,or not ....(i think not)
and is there anywhere a guide to remove the trans =? i search but found nothing
thx for any answer

Re: Trans leak
GM used teflon coated pump seals in the 4L60E. They were plagued with problems of them "walking out". We NEVER use the teflon bushings in our rebuilds because of this. Many times, the bushing will spin in the pump, and destroy it, or crack it. The reason they do this is because a normal bushing has hook ends where it's joined. GM couldn't make a hook end/teflon bushing because the teflon is applied while the bushing material is flat, and then it's formed in a round shape. Because of the "butt ends", the bushings walks when it gets some wear on it. We see many of these that literally fall out of the pump.
What I'm getting at is, just don't throw a new seal in the front, because you may be overlooking thne real problem. You'll want to get a good bushing that's for an early 700R4 transmission.
There are NO good transmission stop leaks! Most only sweal up the seals and cause more damage.

The pump has a step in the front that's meant to keep the bushing from walking (not very effectively with the teflon bushing). When the new bushing is knocked in, you've got to be very careful not to drive it past this step! Also, the new bushing should fit relatively tight in the pump. Make sure there are no cracks in the pump eminating from the bushing bore.
