Trans Knock...?
Trans Knock...?
Heres me situation:
when my m6 95 z28 is idling in neutral, stick in neutral and clutch out it makes a knocking noise a continuous clunk-clunk-clunk. but when i press down the clutch it makes the noise go away. i think it might affect my driving because the car chugs a little when im about 1/4 throttle. i have no idea what this could be and a shop i went to told me to wait till it gets louder and bring it back...i dont really wanna do that as it may cause more damage. Please i need your expert knowledge...
thanks

Re: Trans Knock...?
As far as i know, this is a normal occurance with 4th gen F bodys (LT1's anyway). I thought that my car was knocking the first time i heard it, then i realized that it only happened in neutral with the clutch disengaged. My clutch is not worn and it doesnt cause any change in acceleration AFAIK.

Any how... When your in Neutral your your Flywheel/Clutch are spinning freely on your Transmissions input shaft. It shouldn't matter if your clutch is up or down. Those noises might be caused by non Moving parts like the throwout bearing... or clutch fork.
BTW what kind of clutch is it and how many miles are on it???

Man you guys must be babying the hell out of your cars... That's great though...
but if you have 120 on your Stock clutch and your starting to notice some noises that might be a clue. Even if your clutch is holding nicely some of it's components my not.

Re: Trans Knock...?
well i was told it could be a few things, im definately going to get it checked this week by a different shop tho. it could be a throw out bearing, chipped tooth on a gear or a tranny mount. hopefully none of these cost too much. thanks for all the input.
Thanks
Jon
