Trans-go Shift kit & Trans Durability
Come on guys I know more of you have a trans-go installed. Take to poll so everyone can see the results it will help someone decide if it is right for them or not. This is an opinion poll what do you think it did for you?
In "THEORY" it increases the life of the trans. What it really does is take some of the factory built in "slip" out of gear changes. By doing that, it decreases clutch wear, prolonging trans life. Now, if you put it into a beat trans....it'll kill it sooner! Especially when you drop the pan & put nice new fluid into a trans that has problems. If your trans seems ok & has 100k +/- a few miles on it, then give it a shot. If it kills the trans, you were going to need it soon anyway! LOL Good luck!
K....I put a transgo in my then SCCA ESP S-10 (4.3 with bolt-ons, 4L60E, 3.42s with a locker). the tranny had about 30k on it and regular fluid/filter changes. I beat the snot out of this thing. Manual shifting up and down, running in just one gear for a whole course, etc. No additional cooler. The truck is now owned by my brother-in-law and has over 150k hard miles on it and it's not been maintained well for over 70,000 miles. It still chirps the tires idling through a parking lot.
My firebird....had a tranny shop put a transgo kit in it when the 1st tranny let go at 60k (overrun clutches). I've had numerous problems with it and short of tearing it down myself...probably still will. I don't think it's the shift kit.
Point is....the kits available are varied (I've done many B&Ms on THs). They are typically thought out and tested. Ultimately the durability is related to parts already present in their design and intended use. A kit generally will not allow a transmission to greatly expand it's capabilities in terms ot dealing with weight, heat, and power. Upgrading other internals is generally needed.
I rarely fault a kit for tranny troubles. The parts are simple....you're changing pressures and routes, delaying certain actions, etc. The other internals may not be up to the task given after more power and a kit are added. Even without the kit, it may not. I just finished putting #10 back in my turd bird so I have learned a bit out it.
Good luck.

Century transmissions in Richmond Texas uses a Trans Go shift kit in the 10 second capable 4L60Es they build.
If its good enough for a 10 second car its good enough for my 13 second one.
As much as I beat on my stock trans with the Trans Go kit I have to say it increased durability but any trans that you put 300 RWHP or more through aint goin to last 200K if you use all that horsepower on a regular basis.
