Trans ?????
What I mean is if you take off normally during the shifts does it feel like a normal 1-2 but when its time for 3rd does it feel like you shifted to neutral? If so you likley have a 3-4 cluthc failure.
If you have a 1-2-neutral shift, it's most likely your 3-4 clutches. Feel free to give me a call if you'd like to discuss it further. 302-250-1202

You could have a stuck solenoid A (1-2) it and soenoid B(2-3) must go off in order to have 3rd.
1st=both on
2nd=A-off B-on
3rd=BOTH OFF
4th=A-on B-off
But generally speaking if the 2-3 shift is being comanded you should set a code. Have you had the car scanned? Or looked at the data stream to see what the PCM is comanding gear wise?

Get the car scanned. This could also be a bad 3-2 downshift solenoid, or sticking valve. The "B" solenoid may also be haniging "ON".

I rented a acetron? super scanner.Its the orange one.I couldnt fint any trans codes.do I have to scan it while Im driving or is that the wrong kind of scanner? If so what kind of scanner is the right one and who would have one?
If the solenoid is mechanically locked in the "ON" position, it may not throw a code. I use a Snap-On MT2500 for diagostic purposes. It allows me to watch all the commands and see when/if the computer is commanding the shifts. Of course, not everyone has access to one of these scanners, because they are rather expensive.

I stand corrected. I mistakingly switched the 2nd and 4th solenoid layouts. That is a nice scanner I have one also. Much better than the little handheld tuners you see so many of. The only thing I have seen I liked better to veiw data is LS1EDIT.

Actually any more reputable shop would have it or the OTC version,But considering the solenoids are like 20 a peice at the dealer I would just buy both shift solenoids and change them and see what happens. Wouldnt hurt to see whats in the pan anyway .
Shift solenoids are pretty inexpensive and they're easy to change. Just figure on doing a service while you're there. Grab yourself some new fluid, a pan gasket, and a filter. Try to find a Durapreme, or Farpak pan gasket, if you can. They are much better than cork or rubber. Many times, you can only find them at a transmission shop. If you have any questions about changing the solenoids, feel free to give me a call. 302-250-1202.
BTW, I can drop ship you both solenoids, the pan gasket, and the filter for $50 (including shipping).
Thanks,
Frank
