Tranny noise normal?

Ok i just spent $3k on my t56 tranny rebuild with new clutch and new flywheel everything. I get it back and its just got some nasty noise when sitting in neutral.. like the inside of the tranny is rattling around, push in the clutch it goes away... also when taking off from a stop you can hear like a grinding kind of noise for like 1-2 seconds then it goes away like everything caught up inside the tranny? So i take it back and they put 50w in my tranny instead of ATF just so the noise goes away.. its slightly there now but its harder to shift. Are they trying to get out of more work or is this how t56's sound with ATF in them.. cause i know they call for ATF and thats what i want but 50w just seems like their way out of more work? thanks guys

Give the clutch 1000 miles to break in, a lot of the noise will go away.

Did you replace the pilot bearing when you replaced the clutch?

Re: Tranny noise normal?

well right now im runnin 50w in it.. its what the shop put in it, i think they are trying to get around the problem but whatever its quiet right now. but the only thing is with the 50w in there, yeah it quiets it down but shifting for me is harder.. specially when in the morning and its cold and even thicker... i grind everytime i go into 2nd even with the clutch all the way to the floor... and it started happening soon as the 50w went in it.. so its just too thick. i believe somethin internal is still worn out, it goes back in monday ill let you know what i find out.

mine does the same thing and i was told by a good mechanic that it was my pilot bearing, it wont go away after the clutch gets broken in because mine still does it after about 6k on my new clutch.

Re: Tranny noise normal?

well i dont think it is the clutch because almost all of the sounds got 100% quieter when 50w was added. But i can say that it doesnt even feel like i got a new clutch my pedal has to be almost all the way out before it engages and it feels like when i am letting off the clutch the clutch will grab then something clunks also... my guess is there has to be something worn out inside still, i will let you guys know.
