Tranny 210 degrees WTF??

Temp outside today was hot at around 95. I had the air going full blast and I was in complete stop and go traffic for around 20 minutes. My tranny mods are as follows:

Vig 3200 stall
B&M 24,000 GVW supercooler
radiator tranny cooler bypassed

Well my tranny temp kept climbing and climbing until it reached 210. Should I be alarmed? I am about to replace the cooling lines with some 6 AN braided steel lines which should get the temp down a little. I see lots of people on here post that they never see the temp above 180 but mine always at least gets to 195 when it is hot outside.

could it be because your Rad cooler is bypassed ? Is a Aux. cooler really good enough to cool the trans ?

If there is stagnant air as in NOne moving through the cooler.. There will be no cooling effect.. such as why radiator's usually have fan's attatched to them..

I dont think that is the cause. When I bypassed the factory cooler my tranny temps dropped 20 degrees. It used to get up to 230

Re: Tranny 210 degrees WTF??

sorry, i missed that

The reason I'm interested in this also is because I'm installing a AT in a MAN car and wondering if I need to get a new radiator for the Auto or can I just use an Aux. cooler? does anyone know what exceptable tranny temp is?

Usually most people hook the auxilary cooler inline with the radiator cooler. If youre sitting still for a while put it into neutral. It shouldnt heat up as much because the convertor wont be slipping as much just sitting at idle.

I did the M6->TH400 conversion, and simply added a Perma-Cool stand-alone, fan assisted cooler, mounted under the front of the driver's side fender. It will keep the tranny under 200degF in all conditions.

I'm with Fred on this one. If you drive a high stall on the street you a fan assisted cooler works best. I have one from B&M mounted horizontally under the passengers side headlight and never see over 180-190 degrees. It has a thermostat that turns the fan on at 160 degrees.

Re: Tranny 210 degrees WTF??

i agree with RSKrause about the fan assisted cooler. however if i were you i would at least hook the aux. cooler up in series with the factory cooler. you may have seen the tranny drop 20 degrees with the aux. cooler but whos to say it wouldnt have dropped 25 or 30 degrees if you ran both coolers. also how do have the cooler mounted???

i ask because if you have it horizontal you can't use the radiator fans to draw air through it. i have mine mounted up against the front of the A/C condensor (in series with the factory cooler) and i have my fan settings lowered. i have NEVER seen over 180ish degrees since i installed my temp gauge a month ago. beating on it, sitting in traffic whatever, the tranny stays at 180 or lower (usually much lower the only time i actually saw 180 was after 9 dyno pulls and some test passes to test my tune).

Re: Tranny 210 degrees WTF??

I forgot to mention that I am using a 4,200rpm stall and am putting a lot of hp through it.
