Re: torque converter question?

U can get a general idea of what the stall speed of your converter is by holding the brake and giving it gas until the tires spin and whatever RPM they spin at is a close guess. This isnt the best or most accurate way to do it but itll work somewhat. Are u just trying to figure out if u have an aftermarket converter or what???

yeah i think the original owner changed it and either didn't tune it, or done a poor job tuning it.

Re: torque converter question?

well if its a reletivly higher stall then u could do the brake test and it will tell u, if its a stock stall then the tires should brake loose somewhere around 1600 rpm when holding the brake. I have heard about the OBD1 shifting issue with a higher stall, so check it out and let us know.

Re: torque converter question?

Go to www.edgeracingconverters.com They have some good info on converters. Llyod Elliot recommended of three brands that an Edge converter is a good deal. He ranked them up there with Precision Industries Vigilante and Yank converters. They have a section that explains brake stall, true stall, etc, Good reading.

Re: torque converter question?

Mash the gas see what it revs to before you really take off flying

Or do the brake test.

this is generally the most of the manufacturer's recommended procedures on diagnosing torque convertor stall and some general problems with the convertor.
