Torque Converter

I dont know if this is to dumb of a question but how can you tell if a torque converter is bad if its not in the car, Any easy ways to see because i dont feel like putting it in and then finding out its no good?? Thanks guys

Not without cutting it open, then welding it back together. If it is a big brand like PI or Yank then you could have it sent out to be restalled and when it comes back it is as good as, if not better then new! Also some local places rebuild converters but it might not be as reliable, but worth looking around for.

Besides the obvious (like there's shrapnel rattling around inside), there is no good way short of opening it up. Even then, you need to know what you are looking for. Neil Chance (and some others) make very high-end bolt together converters which can be field inspected and reassembled. So, as was already stated by 1SF, you need to send it back to the manufacturer, which is only worthwhile if it a medium to high end piece in the first place.

He got the converter with a car and the person said it was bad it is rusted but doesnt rattle.He is going to buy a new one or have that one sent away to GER in oxford pa witch is close to us and have them redo it.
