Topping off transmission fluid

I have a 1993 Camaro Z28 that has a slow transmission fluid leak around the transmission fluid pan area. What type of transmission fluid should I use to top it off as it is a little low. Also, would it be harmful in any way to mix new fluid with the old?

If it's just the pan that's leaking and you have some mechanical ability, just replace the gasket that's cheap. Drop the pan, replace gasket, fill with 5 qts of dexron III or greater (all above III are compatible with III), run car at idle and check lvl, drive the car and make sure you hit all gears and converter locks up, then check fluid level again. Total time doing all this in your garage/driveway is 2 hours tops for your first time. Leaks only get worse, not better, so take care of it now
