Throwout Bearing Question

Are these symptoms of a bad throwout bearing, u joint or something else?

Slight rattle from tranny tunnel with car in neutral.

Weird grinding noise from same area when making slow tight turn while in gear and clutch engaged.

Sometimes feels like slack in driveline during shifts.

It's a T56. Flywheel is SLP lightweight steel, pressure plate is lightweight SLP, and clutch disc is Clutchnet Carbon Fiber. I think all have about 2 years and 30-40k miles on them.

Re: Throwout Bearing Question

Honestly, that sounds like normal LT-1 clutch noise to me.

Since mine was new, it rattled when idling, and did the grinding/rattle when starting from a stop. It has ~ 90K miles now and everything is fine.... well, except the engine is being put in now..but nothing to do with the clutch.

LOL. Glad to know, but this doesn't sound normal, and it kinda pops (jumps) when it does it and it's a nasty grinding noise that wasn't there before when I make hard, slow turns.

Re: Throwout Bearing Question

If it does it in turns, sounds like somethings rubbing or something to do with your steering?

Are you sure it's not coming from the rear of the car? Sounds more like either the clutch packs in the differential. Also, if your ring gear has a broken tooth or is chipped bad then it can cause a pop when tat tooth comes around. Does it sound like a nail in the tire when you're driving down the road (like a slight "thump-thump-thump" noise)?

PS: If you could somehow post a sound clip of it it might be easier to diagnose.

Re: Throwout Bearing Question

I cut the wheel in an empty parking lot and let it go in circles, with my door open, and I swear it sounded more like the middle of the car than the back. One more thing it does is when I'm slowing down, there's a weird vibration at like 5 MPH whether I'm on the brakes or not.

Also, I know it's not a broken tooth because it doesn't do it in a straight line. (It better not be a broken tooth on a 12 bolt.)
