Thoughts on the Centerforce DFX

I need a new clutch for my T56/sbc set up. I had a stock replacment in there, as it was with the tranny, i knew it wouldnt last, but i wanted to see if the market would come out with some new stuff.

I havent heard much about the Centerforce DFX, but it looks to be a pretty nice piece. Currently ive got a 383 stroker, making 360hp, and 395tq to the wheels, and im adding a 150-250shot to it in the spring. Any experience with this clutch, and its streetability, and being able to hold that power?

How are the Spec 3+'s holding? I would like to get atleast 20,000mi out of a clutch.

Re: Thoughts on the Centerforce DFX

that is a great clutch for a stockish feel while maintaining a good clampig force for a clutch, however my expericene with it led me too kill it within about 4000 miles (accidently smoked it trying to heat up the tires oops!!)but know i have the spec 3 it is shaky on regular driving conditions sometimes. but it is a fantastic clutch when launching hard after all it is a high performance clutch.gl

Re: Thoughts on the Centerforce DFX

GM high tech had an article on their project "thunder-chicken" with a center force DF clutch. The result was a hard shift due to the small clearance design of the T56 and LT based design, and the increased centrifugal force resulting on alot of shifter load. They were having problems with clutch drag and disengagement between shifts (2 to 3). They went to a SPEC with success. I am currently running a spec 3. Hard to slip, but great once you start rollin. I'm on my 2nd. For city drivin, maybe a spec #2/ 2+

From what I gather, you will need at least a SPEC 4 or a Street Twin.

On juice, I'll be about 400rwhp and thats the minimum recommended clutch for me.

I wouldnt mind doing the street twin, its just that i need to call Mcleod up to see if they even make a street twin that will work with my 2pc RMS engine, and LT1/T56 combo. Ill be giving them a call when i get closer to that point in my build, as i have yet to finish my new bottom end, but once the new pistions are in, then the next step is finding the clutch.

Re: Thoughts on the Centerforce DFX

When I got my car, it would not spin the tires when shifting into second. Basicly, I used to get frustdrated and launch my car over and over. Eventualy, it burned the clutch and when I had it replaced it turns out I had the DF. I guess it was wore out when I got my car. Now, I'm running the ZO6 disk with a ZO6 flywheel. Its a kit from GMPP. Its a better bargin then the 500 dollar Centerforce. I heard alot of complaints about SPEC. I would go for the Kit I have because its a nice upgrade with a good price.

Re: Thoughts on the Centerforce DFX

Only thing with going with a ZO6 set up is i would want to do the new LS7 set up, and i dont know if it would fit, sense basicly im running a LT1. I know i would need a different flywheel for the LS7 clutch, but i dont know if i can find a through out bearing to fit, and then if it would even fit on my inputshaft and in the bellhousing.

BTW i was looking at the new Centerforce DFX clutch, not the DF, DFX is a better design, and made to hold more power, and be more street friendly.
