Is my clutch ruined?

Recently took my car on a 1200 mile trip back home for christmas. After about 400 miles my low oil light came on. I checked the oil and it was way down, so I added a few quarts and everything was fine. The back of the intake is where the leak was at, so it was dripping down and getting on my clutch.

After this i started noticing when i was in 4-6th gear and I tried to accelerate quickly to pass someone, my spec 4 ceramic clutch would slip and the engine would rev up without the car doing anything. I ended up having to put about 5 quarts of oil in durring the trip, and the clutch seemed to hold fine as long as i just accelerated slowly.

So my question is can i just fix the intake leak and let things dry out, or is the clutch shot?

The clutch is shot , however SPEC can re-puck it.
Call them up.
You have the infamous LT1 intake oil leak that is caused by the EGR system.
The hot air coming from the exhaust cause the intake bolts and seal to do wierd things.

I did a complete EGR removal including the tube, valve and solenoid to ensure that I never have this problem. All of the holes were blocked off with aluminum plates.

Yes your clutch is shot...oil doesn't dry out. As suggested above, Spec can rebuild it for you but you need to fix your leak first.

Re: Is my clutch ruined?

it's not so much the issue of the oil not being able to dry out as it is an issue with contamination. the oil contaminates the asbestos fibers in the clutch pretty bad. Every clutch made today still uses small percents of asbestos to hold the material together. The exception being ceramics. A true fully ceramic clutch disk would be somewhat fixable from oil, but not many "ceramic" clutches are fully 100% ceramic. most have many mixtures of whatever.

Your clutch is toast. Plus, you figure if it starts to slip, theres heat generated. So, check your flywheel for burns and over heating issues.

I highly doubt that your intake manifold would leak 5 quarts on a road trip. I bet you that either your rear main seal or the oil pan gasket is leaking.

I put my hand back there and it seemed pretty wet. I was driving 1200 miles, or about 18 hours.

Plus if the rear main or oil pan were leaking I dont see how it would have effected the clutch.

It sure does, as you drive that oil gets blown straight back and onto your clutch.
I'd bet that the rear main will have more of an effect than an intake manifold leak.

My clutch is toast from the rear main right now. It works just fine unless you beat on it. Just driving nice for the next 2 weeks till I have time to crawl under there and fix the leak, replace the disk and hopefully the Fly/PP wil be ok (only 2K miles on em)
