TH400 conversion..

What parts do you need to use a TH400 trans on a 93 camaro? (driveshaft, torque arm, etc.) I'm just trying to get an idea of how much this conversion costs..

Re: TH400 conversion..

im in the middle of laying out my th400 swap right now

youre going to need a th400 (maybe $600), a torque converter ($550), your driveshaft shortened ($100) a 3 speed shifter ($350) although ive heard of people adapting their stock shifter to fit, if youre not m6 youre going to need a crossmember ($100?), a different torque arm ($400) speedo parts ($100?) a flexplate ($75) dipstick ($50?)

those prices are all for new stuff. you could prob do it significantly cheaper if you took your time and waited for good deals.

why are you goin th400?

If you can get by with a $600 TH400, you don't need a TH400 IMHO.

I am doing this conversion too. Some of the above mentioned prices are a bit high. You can get a good converter for around $400.00. A shifter will be between $150.00-$250.00. I second what Rich said about the 600.00 tranny. Mine is about 1,100.

Re: TH400 conversion..

Things to consider when going to a TH400...I mean, your going to it because your making lotsa power right...because a 700R4 can take some serious abuse also...and keep OD.

I bought my TH400, short tail, t-brake, flex-plate shield, trans-shield, deep pan, completely worked up, cross member also. It came out of a 6.0 1/8 car that the guy went to a powerglide. $900 and drove 4 hours to pick it up.

I bought my TQ, a Neal Chance unit, but bought from a guy that paid $1125, sold it to me for $775 shipped.

Traded my 3600 PI TQ for a HD Spohn TA...that would cost me around $600 if I had to buy it.

I bought a Mark Williams driveshaft from a guy here that paid almost $800 for it. I paid $375 shipped...very nice piece, and it is 3/4" of longer also.

Then I bought a shifter for $50, which costs @ SummitRacing $200...bought my Mad Man TH400 dipstick tube...$90 I think.

Flexplate can be bought for under a $100, but then again, is your motor internally or externally balanced?

Still have not addressed the issue of my speedo or if the car will even run because it was an A4...how will the PCM react?

Then you have to address the issue of the junk rearend in the car...? 9" or 12-bolt probably?

I got some pretty good deals and it still cost a chunk....just thought I would share.

Re: TH400 conversion..

My TH400 was under $1,000 and its holding up so far. Converter prices will vary with the HP/torque you're putting through them. You can spend more than $600 for a good one for a high torque application.

Are you looking for a manual valve body setup? Do you want a trans brake? How quick are you planning to run? NHRA requires SFI ratings on things like the flexplate, a flex plate shield, a trans case shield, etc.... depending on your ET.
