Th400 or 4L60E
It kind of depends on how quick you plan on going. If we're talking about a 12 second bracket car and you've already got the 4l60E, then use it. If you don't have either and you want to faster, go with a TH400 or even a TH350.
TH400 is stronger. A stock TH400 with a shift kit can handle the HP necessary to run 10's. Change the sprag, put some good wear parts in and it will handle more.
Plus, first gear is too low in the 4l60E.

LOL...Too low? Who are you kidding? The 3.08 first gear ratio is why we have stock internal LS1's cutting 1.44 60 ft. times. We have power adder LS1's cutting high 1.3X's. Of course they won't handle any power, though. Exactly how much would you guess it tales to run 9.70's @ 146 MPH? The 400 will slow a car down, over a 4L60E. WORSE first gear ratio in a 400, and it takes more HP to turn.
I'll grant you the fact that a 400 is stronger, and you can use a 'brake in one.
An O/D transmission will also allow you to get more aggressive on differential ratio. We have many customers crossing the stripe in 4th gear.

12SCNDZ - In your signature you quote "Pro Race" 4L60E...$1400. What is your turn around time right now? How often do you have to replace any hard parts? What are the most common hard parts that you to have to replace? I am trying to get a rough idea of how much I will really have to spend to get my transmission rebuilt.
I'd run the turbo 400, give Carl Rossler (located in girard ohio) a call his tranny's are ultra-durable and priced right especially if your racing more than driving.
Convertors are easier to come by. Easier to find a part if broken (especially at the track). Transbrake. Better first gear selections for racing especially if your making power (first gear multiplication is out of control with a 3.08 and 4.56 or better rear gears).
Carl builds a great turbo 350 (for less rotating mass) and an equally great metric 200 (for even less rotating mass and better gear selections).

We're back to looking at 2 weeks t/a time. Right now our main focus is to get everything out that we've had for a while before we take on any new work. We should have that accomplished by early next week.
Hard parts are parts not normally replaced in a rebuild. the most common is the reverse housing, which is $135 (new GM). We do have a $300 "ceiling" on hard parts. This means that's the most extra it could cost. The only thing that excludes is the case, itself.
Thanks,
Frank

Frank,
Does this mean that case #4 is a good one? I sure would like to have a few words with your suplier!

We're finally getting caught back up. I've been short handed for a month now, but he's finally back.

Actually no. I tried to get some new pictures of case #4 yesterday, but my camera was dead. This one is cracked in the starter area.
My supplier tells me the 5th case has to come from Michigan. this means it won't be here until Thursday/Friday. I did just get a core in that I may just pull apart and use the case from, because I know it's good. Then I can just use the case I ordered to get the core built.
I don't think this is my suppliers fault. I believe it's the way that UPS is handling them. I know that UPS broke many transmissions when we were using them 4 years ago.
I'll shoot you a picture of case #4 later today.

Frank,
Don't waste your time sending me a picture! (I believe you) I just want to get this thing back.
Thanks
