TH350 vs TH400..any TH350 LT1 cars ???

How many of you have had success with a TH350 ??? I am having a hard time getting everything i need to do a TH400 conversion, and with TH350's being easier to come-by i am wondering if i am making a mistake if i go with a TH350 ! ! Anyone out there run a LT1 forced induction with a TH350 ??

I would just get a properly built 700R4 or 4L60E , they are just as strong as a TH350, a TH400 is another story.

...hmmmm. I'd rather a Th350 (or even 400) as I don't like pulling transmissions.

Get 'engineermike' to come in, he runs one.

No doubt a 400 is much stronger ,Many reputable builders I have spoken to all concur that a properly built 4L60E is just as strong as a TH350, mine is ok so far .

As already stated, a properly built 700/4L60E is just as strong as a TH350. Yes, a 400 is stronger, but completely unneccesary unless you're aiming for the 9 second range, or 60 ft. times in the low 1.4's. If you want any more information on where to have a 700/4L60E built correctly, click the link in my signature.

Thanks,
Frank

Re: TH350 vs TH400..any TH350 LT1 cars ???

I thought anyone with questions would at least look at the signature..but i guess they didnt. My car runs 10.40's @ 137 mph with the six speed, well i have broken it more times than i want to remember, so NOW its time to switch over........I am NOT interested in a 4L60E, i have built my share of them and i dont want to deal with the change over or the hit-or-miss aspect. I didnt want a TH350, but i figured i would at least give it a thought. My mind is set on a TH400, I was just hoping to find someone switching from a 400 to a six speed. So far no luck ! ! I would like to think that going from my T56 to a TH400 would improve my 60ft times and my ET..so i figure that i should run in to low teen's with just the TH400..maybe even the 9's. I think the MPH in the quarter speaks for itself !

James,
I did see your signature, but you never specified that was the car in question. Yes, I'd have to say a 400 is your safest bet for a 9 second car. Exactly what parts are you having a hard time finding?

In reply to your thread you can easily make a TH-350 live behind a 9 second car(check the sig)And a 700r4 or 4l60e is much more difficult and expensive to build then a TH-350 and wont stand up as well. The TH-350's main weakness is the sprag,on hard shifts behind big hp it breaks and freewheels and you lose 2nd gear,I have a transmission specialties drum and sprag that features a redesighned and strengthened TH-400 style unit that holds up to much more hp then a stock th-400 sprag. It has a Hughes racing ultra duty clutch kit,36 element intermediate sprag and drum ,turbo action Reverse pattern manuel v-body with a break and a transmission specialties custom 4500 stall converter. So far its run an entire season of racing and its about to go for its second with little more the a refreshing of the clutch packs.
